Life is not about me!!
Yes, this life that I live is not about me. It is not about my happiness, peace of mind or my personal fulfilment. I had to unlearn one of the most mundane teachings of this world, because oftentimes we come across books, pep talks and Instagram influencers who often say that ‘it is your life, make sure you're happy and at peace.’ To be honest, I have thought and lived the same way, because that is what I was taught by the world I live in. Colossians 1:16 stuck with me as I was doing my daily devotion and I had to read it multiple times to understand and humble myself to accept that life is not about me and the world doesn’t revolve around me. Life is all about God, hence to know my purpose, to know why I am here, I need to begin with God. I was born by His purpose and for His purpose. I have come to a realisation that focusing on myself will never reveal my life’s purpose.

You did not create yourself, so you cannot tell what you were created for. Until you realize that you were made by God and for God, life will never make sense. Many of us use God for our own self-gratification, but that is a reversal of nature and is doomed to failure. We could reach all our life goals and become successful according to the standards of the world but it is not the same as fulfilling our life’s purpose. Life is about letting God use you for His purpose and it is not about you using God for your own self-gratification. All these ‘self-help’ advertisements are of no help at all!!
“Then Jesus told his disciples, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it.”

The best way to know your life’s purpose is to turn to God’s word. He is willing to use you, but according to His will. And all you need to do is humbly accept that your life is not about you but about God. God is not just the starting point of your life but the source of your life. Before you even existed, He planned everything for you. We may choose everything in life but we don’t get to choose our purpose. Without God life makes no sense!!

Ephesians 1:11-12 NRSV
