“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinegrower. He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit. You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you.”
John 15:1-3 NRSV
We thrive every single day to grow closer to God. Just as it takes consistent time and effort for a seed to bloom into a beautiful flower, we need to invest consistent effort into our relationship with God. As believers, we try to walk according to God's purpose, which is ultimately to bear fruit through Christ. We need to share God’s love with others, so we could reflect the Christ that lives in us. This could be the most painful phase of growth yet the primary step in this process is to remain attentive to how God works in our lives.
God removes to make us more fruitful. When we allow God to work in our lives, we will find people who are close to our hearts walk away leaving us hurt or abandoned, we could be forced out of stagnant jobs and dead-end relationships. This is an important and necessary stage, and we need to depend on God so we can focus on our growth. God will allow situations that will bring out the worst characteristics in us, so that we can identify and work on them to be removed from our lives. We need to realize in order to identify them, hence we need to be attentive and humble to accept the change that God intends in our life. In every hidden shame and insecurity, confusion and addictions, when we lose peace and feel lost, God will be present to heal and change us for good. It’s in this pruning phase, where we can experience God’s grace and love in abundance. To seek a real relationship with God, we must foremost be ready to trust and allow God to work in us so that we can take the first step to live a fruitful life.
Life is designed to change and grow, a constant process to be embraced!
“So that you may lead lives worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, as you bear fruit in every good work and as you grow in the knowledge of God.”
Colossians 1:10 NRSV
