“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends."
John 15: 12-13 NRSV
John 15:1-11 talks about how our behavior resembles the relationship that we have with God. In this verse, it also explains that one of the signs that shows that we are the followers of Christ is by obeying to all his commandments. One of the most important commandments of the Lord is for us to love others. Sometimes it may seem impossible for us to love those who have done bad to us, but Jesus wants us to do just that.
When God says that we should lay down one’s life for one’s friend, God himself is the example. For He himself has sacrificed his life for us for He loves us. As for us, ‘Laying down one’s life’ would mean that we should start dying to our own self for someone. For example, we should die to our ego that has been holding us back and start talking to people that have hurt us to show our act of love to them.
There are many ways in showing our love towards someone and the first one is as simple as being someone’s friend. When we are with our friends through their thick and thin, it shows that we are portraying the love that we have learned from Christ Jesus. Secondly, forgiving those who have hurt us is also an act of love. When we start forgiving others, it shows that we are following the commandments that God has given to us to love others no matter what they did to us.
As we are the only Bible that some unbelievers would read.
We should always portray God’s love in our life.
Prayer For Love
Father, help me to demonstrate your love, not only to those that are lovable, but also to those who lash out at me through pain or anger, disappointment or loss. May the love of Jesus be manifested in me, and may the love of Jesus be distributed, by grace through faith, to all with whom I come in contact.
It is so by Faith and by Faith so it is. AMEN❣
