God Speaks When We Listen

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. John 10:27-28

Hearing God’s voice is very essential for us as the children of God. Having a relationship with God requires us to have two-way communication with Him. We should not only take the time to pray and ask God what we want, but we should also take the time to wait in His presence to hear what He has to say to us. In the verse above, God has reminded us to listen to His voice and follow His ways. When we follow the commandments of God, that is when we would obtain eternal life and the Lord would always keep us safe in His hands.

To listen to God’s voice, we have to make sure that our faith in Him is strong. Many of us could not listen to the voice of the Lord because we don’t believe that He speaks. To hear God’s voice, we have to first learn how to wait in the presence of the Lord. We have to wait silently to give room for the Lord to speak. There are many ways that God would use to speak to us. He would speak to us through vision and dreams, through people, through the bible and also through the Holy Spirit. That is why we need to listen and find God in everything that we do. God does not only speak to us to give us answers but He also speaks for us to gain knowledge and understanding from a whole new light. And just like He had promised to listen to us, we should also be keen to listen to Him.

When listening to God’s voice, we should also make sure whether it is really from Him. To do that, it is good for us to have the spirit of discernment. Only when we have the spirit of discernment, we would be able to differentiate if the voice is really from the Lord or not. Another way to know if it is God’s voice is when His voice brings complete peace to our hearts. God’s voice will not bring any confusion and would surely lead to a solution in life. Another way to know if it is God’s voice is when it does not go against the will of the Lord. Because God’s voice would never lead us into destruction but will always guide us for the betterment of our lives.

Prayer For Discernment

Heavenly Father, We thank you for your guidance in our lives. Lord, we believe that you speak when we listen, so we pray that you would help us to discern your voice. We ask that you lead us according to your will and fulfil the purpose you have in our lives.
