God Speaks!

I have seen a lot of people who always come with a list of sorrows and needs into the presence of God. For them, prayer is all about God listening to all their stories and not letting Him talk, it’s always about them! I guess we all need to remind ourselves that, God wants to communicate with us.

Prayer is not a monologue, but a dialogue, God’s voice in response to mine is the most essential part of Prayer”

-Andrew Murray

Sometimes we forget that God can talk! So many questions ponder in our head like, will God speak to me? Am I worthy enough for God to speak to me?

If you have an open heart and you are eager to hear from Him, He will speak to you.

Ways through which God can talk to us are Bible, voice, the church (sermons), prophecy, dreams, vision, circumstance, God-given desires, prayer, word, and sometimes could be a sentence or even a page, realization, and actions.

Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it!

Luke 11:28 NRSV

Something even more interesting that we need to remind ourselves every day is that a part of God lives in us and we need to be aware of our every thought and action.

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. Galatians 2:20 NIV

The above verse is one of my favorite verses that reminds me that He lives in me and to walk in His ways every day. I've seen so many people run around to many prophets asking if God spoke to you about my life? Did God show you anything? Sad that they haven't realized that God can speak to them directly! I would like to remind you here that these are the days where false prophets and teaching are rising tremendously and we need to be aware of them.

But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive opinions. They will even deny the Master who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. Even so, many will follow their licentious ways, and because of these teachers, the way of truth will be maligned.

2 Peter 2:1‭-‬2 NRSV

If God can speak directly to Abraham, Moses, and other people in the Bible, why can’t He speak to us? I believe we worship the same God who does not change.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Hebrews 13:8 NIV

We also need to be aware of the enemy who is trying to destroy our relationship with God, He battles with our mind and emotions which are mostly connected with fear. This is where we need to test the spirits and be conscious of every voice we hear. Not every voice is from God.

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

1 John 4:1 NRSV

The first question that would hit our head is that, how will I test the spirits? This is where we need the Gifts of spirit, there are many but The Spirit of Discernment is the one through which we can differentiate the voice of God and Satan (Ref: 1 Corinthians 12:10-11)

When God speaks there would be no confusion or doubts. When we walk according to His will, He will make way for us. Every word that comes from God counts and serves a purpose! When God speaks to us God will Discipline us and help us Discover the Purpose of our Life.
