Faith Comes Through Obedience

Obedience is very crucial to us as Christians, as that is what the Lord has told us to do. But many of us fail to do so as we give more space for the worldly things in our life, thinking that it is completely fine not to obey the commandments of the Lord. Why should we have obedience in our lives you ask? Here are a few verses that will lead you to the answers of that question.

By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. (1 John 5:2–3 ESV)

In this verse, it states that obeying is a form of love. To obey God and follow his commandments is an act of love too besides worshipping Him. As followers of Christ, we should never see the commandments of Christ as a burden on us. God himself gave His life for us for He had loved us unconditionally, and being able to obey God’s commandments should never be a burden for us. To love God, is to also obey His commandments and that is why it is crucial to have obedience in our lives.

And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments. If someone claims, "I know God," but doesn't obey God's commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth. But those who obey God's word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him. Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did. (1 John 2:3–6 NLT)

Besides that, being obedient also reflects on our faith in God. In the verse above, it explains how we as Christians claim that we know God but if we are not willing to obey His commandments, then we are liars. But to be a Christian who knows God and also obeys His commandments, it shows the amount of faith that we have in our God. Faith comes through obedience and that is why God has called us to Christ so that we could obey.

Jesus replied, "But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice." (Luke 11:28 NLT)

We often search for blessings in everything that we do and this verse clearly explains that we would be blessed when we obey the word of the Lord. Believing and obeying the Lord’s commandments would always lead us to uncountable blessings that our human mind can not think of. Hence, it is very important to us to be very obedient in the Lord as that is not only the commandment that was given to us, but it also leads into the betterment of our spiritual life
