Do Not Be Deceived

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Romans 12:2 NRSV

There once lived a farmer near a beautiful and dense forest, he always admired the forest's vibrant green life. Though there were many seasonal changes and even natural calamities, the trees in the forest remained strong and its plants and bushes were always fresh and green. When the farmer pondered upon the reasons for the forest's constant lively spirit, He discovered that the roots of every tree in the forest were deeply interconnected. They shared their nutrients and strength so that even when one among them had a weakness, they were sustained by its environment. Thus as one entity, they remained rooted together.

Likewise, we as humans are either sustained or destroyed by the environment that we surround ourselves with. Every little thing that we see and hear and even the people whom we surround ourselves with, influence our character, habits and might stray our path away from God. The scripture says that “…Bad company ruins good morals” (1 Corinthians 15:33 NRSV). But, we do not have control over whom we associate in our workplace, schools, and other places. And as believers, we also have a responsibility to reach out to others and share the love of God, hence it is important to be mindful of every word we allow inside our hearts.

Therefore, let us assess the environment in which we spend most of our time, does it nourish our soul? Or does it drain us of our energy? We need to spend time with those who encourage and inspire us to live a better life. With those who teach and also reprimand when we stray away from the right path. And most importantly, we need to spend our time with people whose hearts depend on God, they are the ones who will strengthen us with prayers in our spiritual journey. Let us learn to love and support those around us and nurture the environment we live in, so that in this we may bring glory to our God.

But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.

Hebrews 3:13 NIV

Prayer For Fellowship

Father, we thank you for your guidance which leads us in every place that we go. Lord, we ask you for the discernment to choose the right people who will nourish our souls, and remove us from those who drain our spirit. Teach us to be mindful of every person who influences our life. And transform us so that we can be of help to many people.

It is so by Faith and by Faith so it is. AMEN❣
